Reignite Education: Bursaries for Boys in Rural Uganda

Education

Raised

KES 105,000

Goal

KES 195,000

In the quiet corners of rural Uganda, a troubling pattern unfolds every school term. Bright, motivated boys are dropping out of school—not because they lack ambition, but because they can’t afford to stay. Whether it’s the inability to pay for school fees, uniforms, or basic supplies, the result is the same: education becomes a privilege, not a right.

Reignite Education is here to change that. This initiative provides school bursaries to boys from low-income, underserved rural communities—specifically those on the brink of dropping out. We believe that no child should have to choose between education and survival. By covering tuition costs and other essential needs, we’re not just helping boys stay in school—we’re creating a foundation for long-term opportunity, stability, and growth.

The Crisis We’re Addressing

While global attention often focuses on girls' education—which remains critical—there’s an overlooked crisis involving boys. In Uganda, especially in rural areas, many boys are pulled out of school to work, help support their families, or due to sheer financial strain. The result is a widening gap in education, employment opportunities, and personal development. These boys face higher risks of becoming trapped in cycles of poverty, crime, or unemployment later in life.

How the Bursary Program Works

Our bursary program is simple but powerful:

  • Targeted Support: We identify boys at high risk of dropping out through partnerships with local schools, community leaders, and parent groups.

  • Financial Assistance: Each bursary covers school fees, uniforms, textbooks, exam fees, and sometimes even meals or boarding costs.

  • Ongoing Monitoring: We don’t just fund and forget. We track academic performance, attendance, and well-being to ensure each student is thriving.

  • Community Involvement: We engage families and schools to support the student holistically, not just financially.

Why Boys?

Boys in rural Uganda are often expected to "grow up fast." They may be seen as breadwinners long before they’ve finished school. Some are pushed into labor, while others lose interest because of a lack of mentorship and role models. Education gives these boys more than knowledge—it gives them a sense of purpose, structure, and the chance to contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Real Impact, Real Stories

Take Daniel, a 14-year-old from Busoga region. His father passed away, and his mother couldn’t afford his secondary school fees. He was ready to quit school entirely and begin working in a sugarcane field. Thanks to a bursary from Reignite Education, Daniel returned to school, completed his exams, and now dreams of becoming a teacher.

Multiply Daniel’s story by dozens, then hundreds. That’s the scale of change we’re working toward.

How You Can Help

Whether you’re an individual donor, corporate sponsor, or simply someone who believes in equal access to education, there are many ways to contribute:

  • Sponsor a Student: Directly fund a bursary and receive updates on the student’s progress.

  • Support the Program: Help us expand to more districts and reach more boys in need.

  • Spread the Word: Awareness is powerful. Share this cause in your circles and advocate for inclusive education.

Reignite Education is more than a campaign—it’s a movement to unlock human potential, one bursary at a time. When we remove the barriers that stand between boys and their education, we don’t just change lives—we change futures.
